wrong prediction

North Central Montana here. We had very cold sub zero temps most the winter, had a lot of snow, its still snowing, today I woke to nearly a foot of snow. almanac forecast we are suppose to be in rain and warmer. I predict cooler spring milder summer. the predict warmer spring hotter summer.

just wondering??

must agree that the winter months of Jan /18 until April / 18 were seriously off, but you did get lots of snow right for this April. I live just north of the Montana border and this is the most snow I have seen for 25 years as it came mid December and continued piling up with no melting warm winds we can count on. We sure needed a good snowy winter but hope the temperatures rise slowly and there are no big mountain rains or there could be flooding .

Weather Predications

Predications, they are a guess, based on past cycles. In other words, weather people are in sales, not production. Everything has been the exact opposite of what their predications, was still getting veggies from garden in October.

weather predictions

That's not true. If you read The Old Farmer's Almanac (the book), it's done by a fellow who has college degrees in atmosphere science and meteorology. And is a gardener. And it's based on a specific formula. So, long-range weather predictions are not always be accurate, but it's not done by a salesman. Also, they're talking about "predictions" (not "predications" which means preaching).

Reply to Chris

Great response Chris. I wanted to also add that there are plants that produce well into fall and can give a second crop as well, so this is not something out of the ordinary.

Colorado driest winter since 1888.

Colorado has only had about 8 inches of snow in Denver since Oct 2017. Driest winter since 1888 with 3.8 inches snow. We didn't have AL Gore around then to tell us he invented the Internet Highway or blame us for global warming/ climate change or what ever the new revised name for normal cyclical weather is these days.

South Colorado Springs got LESS than 3.8 inches of snow.

South Colorado Springs got LESS than 3.8 inches of snow. LESS than Denver, LESS than Northern Colorado Springs. My front yard is CRUNCHY. I read weather predictions or listen to the TV forecasters and LAUGH.

yikkes

hard to even fathom that little of snow for there, that's crazy. Up here in Alberta Canada we had more snow than in 50 years. Such a change from so many lean winters over the last number of years. I hear pretty well every one south of Yellowstone never got much of a winter at all???

Lubbock

Lubbock in NW Texas seems to be on the cusp between this region and the Texas/Oklahoma region. Neither prediction applies to us.

Lubbock just set a record 99 days (since 1911) with no measurable precip, from 11/8/17 to 2/15/18. It was broken 2/16 with .01" rainfall measured at the airport...

possible scary fire season

wow that is scary to hear of such bone dry conditions and already there have been some wildfires breaking out in south central areas of the west.
