Location
Sudbury is not in southern Ontario. The southern Ontario forecast is not accurate for Sudbury.
"Southern" Ontario
Toronto and Thunder Bay weather temperatures are so wildly different that their agricultural hardiness zones are separated by 6 designations, indicating winter low temperatures about 30 deg higher in Toronto than in Thunder Bay. Their spring is a long time after theirs: and ours is as much as 2 weeks later than the area of Ontario S of us, in the Niagara peninsula.
Thunder Bay weather
I too live in Thunder Bay. As far as averages and precipitation go, almanac has been spot on this year. Consider The Weather Networks November prediction for this winter of hellish polar vortex episodes and a cold miserable winter. Then they retracted three weeks later. Almanac constructed their projections last spring. Yes, it’s the north and yes we have had a collection of maybe 8 very cold days... however, it’s been a blissfully decent winter as almanac said it would be.
They also said more snow. Which happened lol
Weather
Thunder Bay is considered Northwestern Ontario. It is not -6 as you guys are suggesting, but rather currently -27 as of Jan 7th 2020. Please change this
How the Almanac predicts weather
Hi, Aryanna, The weather temperature you reference is an average for the entire month. The Almanac weather isn’t meant to be viewed on a daily basis. Long-range weather is calculated over a year in advance, with predictions versus historical averages so you get a sense of what is typical (colder or warmer than average). Here is more information about how the Almanac predicts: https://www.almanac.com/content/how-old-farmers-almanac-predicts-weather For daily weather, we’d direct you to our short-range weather forecasts. We hope this is helpful.
Long range weather forecast
I was delighted to see the long range weather forecast on your page until I realised that it is for
Southern Ontario only. I do not live in Southern Ontario. I live in Thunder Bay, Northwestern Ontario. It is
1399 km from Toronto, Ontario or a 14 hr. 52 minute drive and 1006.8 km from Sudbury or a 10 hour and 53 minutes drive.
Would you please send me the long range weather forecast for January and, if possible, February for my area.
Thank you for your assistance in this regard.
Thunder Bay
Hi, Janet, Thunder Bay is easily within our coverage area. This free Web site is a companion to The Old Farmer’s Almanac publication. More local forecasts
I really like these forecasts, but I do wish the regions were more localized. The weather can be very different in Windsor vs Toronto or Elliott Lake! Thank you.
Weather so far
Where I live (above the snow belt) the almanac has been spot on.
