Sunny here

Well, I'm between Cleveland & Toledo about 20 minutes from the lake, The last two days ( Feb 2nd & 3rd) have been sunny and very mild, 55 degrees today. . I'm in Lower Lakes region.

Robins in Northern climate

Robins eat fruits, berries, earthworms, grasshoppers, grubs. They do not exist on a seed diet. If they can find food and shelter, they will not migrate. You can hear their song all winter. Leave some meal worms on a high platform near some shrubs or other cover , and they will frequent the area. The sighting of robins indicates warmer weather or spring, is only because they are more active seeking local food sources.

November and December Averages Spot On

Here in southwest Lower Michigan the monthly averages that were forecast by TOFA were spot on. In Grand Rapids, MI we averaged exactly 4.0 degrees (above) for the month, and November averaged 5.0 degrees (below). The daily timing/temperature/precip were fairly close as well - nice job guys. Let's hope the January forecast (5.0 degrees above) is spot on as well. So far a pretty easy winter; just the way many of us like it.

60th Birthday party

Planning a bash on February 22, 2020. Any snow storms likely?

snow totals

It is impossible to predict long term snowfall in Buffalo NY . Lake effect snow is unpredictable but right now the Lake is wide open . Which is not good going forward. Anyone who lives in Buffalo knows this. The week before and after Christmas is warmer than usual. with no snow. So this farmer almanac forecast is WAY off already. The only sure thing is we will get snow storms in Buffalo . When is anybody's guess but the local weather forecasters will warn us when it is going to happen.

Robin Hybernation

Brett's comment is absolutely correct. Robin hibernation is a little studied but steadily growing field of study in animal sciences. You don't hear about it very much, but I find robin/bear symbiosis to be a fascinating subject. Sadly there has been few academic studies on the matter.

Yes robins typically migrate (not hibernate) to the south by now. If a robin is hibernating, I would think he is most likely frozen dead.

We recieved snow and it became bitterly cold here but i had seen a couple of robins... was surprised to see them.. dont they hybernate or something for winter? I mean when you see a Robin it is a sign of spring ..well at least to me they are : )
