November 2018

Over the years I look forward to checking your long range forecast predictions for different events and have been amazed at the near accuracy. I am looking now for a date in November 2018 and it seems the Almanac stops after October 2018. When will the November calendar appear?

weather forecast periods

The Editors's picture

For as long as we have been making weather predictions, they have begun in November and continued through the following/next year’s October. That is the traditional farming season (Nov being the time to put away tools, rest, and prepare for the next year). The winter period corresponds with the meteorological seasons (not the calendar): Nov through March is winter; April and May are spring; etc. So the forecasts begin after the traditional close of the farm/garden season and the beginning of the meteorological winter.

The Calendar Pages include Nov and Dec of the prior year for similar traditional reasons, but also because the Almanac is available in the autumn; people centuries ago and today use/d the last two months as well as the entire calendar cycle (Jan through Dec) as it appears in the Almanac.

Snow

I’m a little disappointed too. I thought we’d have at least one big snowstorm like last year. Based on the Farmer’s Almanac, it doesn’t look very likely to happen.

snow this year?

The Editors's picture

Remember, our forecasts are traditionally 80 percent accurate. So, although there is not a snowstorm predicted for Region 2 in February, there’s a 20 percent chance it could happen. (Remember, too: be careful what you wish for!)

Seriously, we hope you always get the weather you want!

SNOW

Yes i'm with you Jen!!! I'm just across the bridge from you in Maryland and I want one good SNOW!!!! Disappointed :(

Snow

That's strange. I live in southern Virginia near the NC border and we've had about 14 inches of snow this year. But don't worry, I think March may have a surprise for all of us.
