Radar—also called “weather radar” or “pulse-Doppler radar”—is a measurement system used to determine the position and intensity of precipitation (rain, snow, etc.) in the sky. Radar works by sending out pulses of microwave radiation, which bounces off of precipitation and allows us to see exactly where it is occurring, as well as its direction of movement and intensity.
