What percentage of Americans own a dog?

About 40 percent of American households have at least one dog. There are 59 million cats, 52.9 million dogs, and nearly 300 million people in the United States. Although there are more cats than dogs, dogs can be found in 4.2 million more households than their feline counterparts.
