    Hawaii’s volcanoes and earthquakes

Do you have any foresight on the current volcanic eruptions and earthquakes on the big island going forward?

On the Right-Hand Calendar Pages of the print or digital edition, we note the days on which the Moon rides high or low (in the sky). Traditionally, the date of the high begins the most likely 5-day period of earthquakes in the Northern Hemisphere; the date of the low indicates a similar 5-day period in the Southern Hemisphere. Also noted are two days each month when the Moon is on the celestial equator, indicating the most likely time for earthquakes in either hemisphere. This month, May, the Moon rides high on May 18 (low on the 4th). The Moon is on the celestial equator on May 12 and May 24. All of this is based on the idea of the Moon’s “pull” on Earth.

Please note that the volcano introduces special circumstances/conditions.
