Difficult to rely on this year

I find this year's forecast difficult to rely on. "Winter will be milder than normal, with above-normal precipitation and snowfall." "The snowiest periods will be in mid-November, early to mid- and late December, and early February." If this area gets this much snow fall, particularly during mid-November, then Winter cannot be mild. Secondly, in Omaha, we have had snow on the ground since Christmas, with the exception of 2 days - its the 2nd of February now, and its been unusually cold. I think the weather has pulled a trick on ya.

difficult to rely on?

The weather forecasts are deviations from normal weather conditions. For more on that, see here: https://www.almanac.com/content/how-we-predict-weather

What’s more, “Mild” is relative: Mild in Florida is not the same temp as Mild in Michigan in January or February. (I know; you’re not in Michigan but the point is, it’s a relative term—and it relates back to the idea of norms or averages.

We do not predict or account for “snow on the ground,” but if that’s what you’ve got, then it must be cold…so maybe it’s not mild, even relatively speaking. But we have not process for checking every aspect of our prediction accuracy at any given time (like now).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts—and experience, though.
