How to Read Long-Range Weather Forecasts
Long-range predictions show weather trends in temperatures and precipitation. For example, will the winter be colder or warmer than average? Will there be more or less snow than what's typical for your area? Our famous predictions (traditionally 80% accurate) are made 18 months in advance, and meant to help you make more informed decisions for long-term planning.

NOVEMBER 2017: temperature 39° (1° below avg.); precipitation 1.5" (avg.); Nov 1-11: Showers, mild north; periods of rain and snow south; Nov 12-17: Sunny, cool; Nov 18-23: Rain and snow showers, then sunny, mild; Nov 24-30: Showers, then snowy periods, very cold.
DECEMBER 2017: temperature 28° (5° below avg.); precipitation 2.5" (avg. north, 2" above south); Dec 1-4: Flurries north, snowstorm south; frigid; Dec 5-8: Snow showers, frigid; Dec 9-20: Rainy, mild north; flurries, cold south; Dec 21-26: Flurries, mild north; heavy snow, then flurries, cold south; Dec 27-31: Snow, then flurries, very cold.
Annual Weather Summary: November 2017 to October 2018
Winter will be colder than normal, especially in the south, with the coldest periods from late November into early December and in late December, mid-January, and early February. Precipitation will be slightly below normal in the north and above in the south, with above-normal snowfall in both. The snowiest periods will be in early and mid- to late December, mid-January, early and mid-February, and early March. April and May will be warmer and slightly drier than normal. Summer will be drier than normal, with temperatures warmer than normal in the north and cooler in the south. The hottest periods will be in late June, early and late July, and early and late August. September and October will be cooler than normal, with above-normal precipitation.
