A one pound box is about 75¢ or less, that's darn cheap for all it can do. I've been using it to brush my teeth and as an antacid for years, also many of the other uses listed here. I keep several boxes of it in my pantry, it's something that we can't live without.

A tablespoon of baking soda mixed with the juice of 1 lemon makes a great face mask. Just apply generously and let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse off with cold water. It improves skin clarity if used regularly.
Take baking soda backpacking! It does not attract bears or insects, so it is much better than toothpaste. A little under the arms and in shoes keeps you fresh, plus you can wash your clothes with just a little water and baking soda in a plastic bag. Great as camping dish soap as well. Much better than camping soap for personal hygiene, even for washing hair. A little goes a LONG way: half a cup will last a party of 4 for a week! In small quantities, it is not harmful to the environment, but still use baking soda 100 feet away from natural water sources.
Curious, if its safe for the environment then why do you need to keep it away from natural water sources? I had not thought of it for camping. Cool!
Yes it is perfectly safe for the environment. You need to keep it away from ANY water sources (unless you WANT to make a paste or slurry) as it will dissolve!!!!
