I have two Pileated Woodpeckers behind the house in the woods by Table Rock Lake, Missouri.
We live in northeastern Oklahoma and have lived in this area all our lives. My husband and I have been married 48yrs and we have always had a few Pileated around. They love dead trees and our pecan grove. When we walk through the woods to the river that runs along the back of our property and hear them cry out, it can seem a little eerie. LOL We love them!
We have these year round in our neighborhood 15 miles north of Seattle at the Northern tip of Lake Washington. They visit our suet feeders often.
I had the extreme pleasure of having a pair of Pileated Woodpeckers visit an old dead tree and nest box in our yard here in the Ocala Forest in Florida this morning. It was simply absolute pure joy.
Please come read all about this on my /web site or Blog:

We see them rarely, but hear them drumming or "singing" often.
We're in central Ohio, a bit northeast of Columbus...
Have a pair in woods behind my home outside of Pittsburgh
I have heard him for the past 10 years in my yard and finally SAW him! It was a wonderful experience!
I have never seen this bird, but have heard it pecking at the trees...
I have seen this woodpecker and I heard it pecking and talking before
