Salad detox, food gifts, fruitcake

This is an archived issue of our Companion email newsletter.

Daily Newsletter for Sunday, December 4, 2016

Dear Almanac readers,

Between the great feasts of Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, enjoy some "salad days."  In this Companion, we share some hearty winter salad recipes—a sort of detox, if you will.

Paradoxically, we're starting to think about homemade food gifts—personal, useful, and always a delight.  Herb vinegar bottles make great gifts. Or, dare we give fruitcake? See some ideas below.

Hark! This coming Tuesday, December 6, is St. Nicholas Day. Throw a small party with glühwein (or, instead, hot cocoa!) and traditional sinterklaas ginger cookies!

With all good wishes,
