How did the wives tale, of the star (aka the star of Bethlehem; not a term used in the Bible either) being what is currently known as the "north star" (Orion's belt; Polaris), get started? Was this the result of what the scientists and Planetarium's were or are saying? The Bible certainly says no such thing!
Matthew 2:3: The wise men said, "For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him".
Matthew 2:9: "After they had heard the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was".
If anything, the Bible possibly speaks of an Eastern star (maybe a planet), that perhaps rises in the east and sets in the west. This phenomenon applies to all visible celestial bodies like stars, planets, the Sun and the Moon. It never says that the star is "bright" either.
Revelation 22:16 Jesus, after he has grown up, refers to himself, ""I am the root and descendant of David, the bright morning star."
Navigation by stars, also known as celestial navigation or astronavigation, is a method of determining your position on Earth by using the positions of stars, the moon, and the sun. It's a technique that was used extensively by sailors until the late 20th century.
Also, the wise men did not go to see Jesus in Bethlehem as Nativity plays and scenes depict; this is purely artistic license. The wise men visited and presented their gifts for the baby Jesus to Mary and Joseph at their home in Nazareth.
