Question
Are there other traditions besides the tooth fairy that have to do with the loss of baby teeth?
Answer
Yes. The loss of a child’s baby tooth has been celebrated since ancient times. Today, in some cultures, the newly shed tooth is tossed up toward the Sun or into a fire, or sprinkled with salt. In Mexico, it’s said that if the tooth is placed in a shoe, a mouse will come to take the tooth away.
