Question
I saw the tip on cleaning silver with potato water and was wondering if you had a solution for large brass items.
Answer
A lot of brass pieces have been coated with lacquer or varnish to prevent tarnishing. Others are brass-plated, not solid brass. To clean such pieces, use hot, soapy water and a soft cloth. Do not scour.
Clean unlacquered, solid brass in warm water with dishwashing liquid. Alternatively, you can also apply a paste of lemon juice and cream of tartar; leave the mixture on the brass for five minutes, then wash in warm water and dry.
