My strawberries began flowering and producing berries, but potato bugs keep getting into them and eating the fruits. Is there any way to get rid of the bugs and not hurt the berries?
Answer
We haven’t found anything that says potato bugs get at strawberries, but there are plenty of other suspects. To determine what might be eating your berries, check with the experts at the Illinois extension office. Controlling pests usually involves some form of pesticide, and you’ll have to decide whether you’re comfortable using that as a management tool. Some organic controls rely on insecticidal soap, but first you need to determine what kind of pest you’re dealing with.
