What is a rain shadow?
Answer
A rain shadow is the effect of the movement of air on a mountain. On the windward side, air rises, enhancing cloud cover and precipitation on that side. On the lee side, air sinks into an area of higher pressure and becomes dry, creating an area of low rainfall known as a rain shadow.
