What is a snow roller?

A snow roller is a cylinder of snow formed by wind; it can range from baseball- to barrel-size. Also, in the past, a snow roller was an old-fashioned wooden or steel device that, when hitched to a team of horses or oxen and pulled along roads, packed the snow for easy traveling by sleighs and sleds.
