Where did the phrase, “The pot calling the kettle black” come from?
Answer
It means pretending you are better than someone else, when in fact you are basically the same. In older times, pots and kettles were made of black iron — so this phrase came to be used to indicate someone was accusing another of the same characteristics as the accuser himself.
