Ingredients: 2 cups brown sugar; 5 tablespoons shortening; 2 teaspoons salt; 2 cups hot water; 2 cups raisins; 2 teaspoon cloves; 2 teaspoons baking soda (*dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water); 3 cups flour
Put first 6 ingredients in saucepan, boil for 5 minutes; cool to lukewarm. Dissolve 2 teaspoons baking soda in 1 tablespoon of warm water. Add to 3 cups flour. Mix well. Pour in angel food cake pan and bake at 325 degrees for about one hour. Cool completely, then wrap in aluminum. This cake tastes better the next day and it freezes well.
