Granted: Magnesium is necessary in the body to prevent cramps, most of us are deficient in magnesium. However if you are experiencing cramps, don't double up on your daily magnesium.... Too much will/can cause loose bowels.... There is a product called (drum roll) Magnesium oil. It comes in a spray bottle and a spray on the leg, foot, etc and a bit of gentle massage to work it into the skin gives quick relief. We use it at our house and love it. Ps, this is not a paid commercial....
I agree, Karen Wolfe, the magnesium oil will relieve my leg and foot cramps and prevent reoccurrence for the rest of the night. Works must faster than a magnesium pill. It has never failed me yet! I always keep it on hand, as I tend to get painful leg and foot cramps more often as I age.

I'm 62 yo man. Had bad cramps for years. Onlt remedy that worked was about 1/2 cup pickle juice.
My Dr has prescribed quinine for me and it works fine. No cramps and no side effects. But I still keep pickle juice in the fridge, just in case.
I, too, have been drinking about 1/2 cup of pickle juice before bed.
Before using I had cramps nightly. With pickle juice, no cramps in 2 months and counting.
I've heard that it's the vinegar but I'd rather not drink straight vinegar!
the pickle juice works for me ,i also drink tonic water but sometimes a brakethrough cramp comes and they are worse,i make it to the frige take a swig of pickle juice cramp gone right away
We now have magnesium oil spray that comes in a bottle from health food stores. When I or hubby wake up with a cramp, I spray it on my hand then go to the belly of the muscle involved and rub it in. The cramp always subsides within minutes !
I've had leg cramps, we called them charliehorses, since childhood, although they seem to have subsided over the years, but after learning biofeedback/relaxation therapy, I was able to visualize the muscle and relax it. When I felt the cramp, instead of immediately tensing, which makes it worse, I stopped and visualized the muscle like a piece of dough with warmth spreading throughout the muscle. Within a few minutes, the muscle has totally relaxed and I can go back to sleep with no pain in the morning.
