Popular astilbe hybrids include …
- ‘Fanal’ boasts dark green foliage, dark crimson flowers, and grows to about 1½ feet tall.
- ‘Irrlicht’ enchants with dark green foliage, elegant white flowers, and a maximum height of up to 2 feet tall.
- ‘Visions’ is a particularly drought-tolerant option with strong stems, green leaves, and thick raspberry-hued flowers.
Astilbe chinensis ‘Pumila’ – Choose this low-growing astilbe if you need an attractive groundcover; it tops out at about six inches high, with lavender flowers that grow to 12 inches. Many gardeners say the plumes have a delicious grape scent.
Why do my astilbe come back year after year but in strange places. Like where the grass comes to the sidewalk. I would like to send you a photo but don't see where I can
I planted several astilbe’s about two months ago in my backyard which is pretty heavy shade, but in a spot where the sun does come through for a little while each day. Now the astilbe flowers all seem dead - the pink, red, and white flower part is all brown and shriveled - but the actual leaves of the plant are green. They are about the same size as they were when I brought them. They get regular water, so I don’t know what exactly the problem is. Can anyone help?
My plants our in their 3rd season.
Area and watering about the same as David described
I am noticing for the second year as July arrives my beautiful colorful flowers are fading fast and turning brown.
I too would love to have the colorful flowers last longer. Any ideas?
Are Astilbe rabbit resistant?
Rabbits prefer fresh spring greens!! If you can protect the plants through early growth of the baby leaves, the bunnies will usually move on.
How do I protect my astillbes from the rabbits. They definitely love eating them off
Is it true that glads can change colors over time? We began about 8 years ago with mixed color corms and since that each year we have more red and now they are ALL red. We dig all the corms every year, save them and plant them with very few having to be discarded so I don't think we are only saving red ones. Other people have told me they experienced the same thing with one having only blue flowers.
