Hi, i bought a triple pony about a month ago, it i came in an 9 inch pot. There is approximately 3/4 inch of space left between the plant and the rim of the pot. One of them has roots growing several inches up from where the base meets the soil. Should i repot, or trim the roots, or is this normal?

Hello, I have a 36 year old Ponytail Palm which got severely under watered. The leaves rather quickly turned yellow and droopy on top. I repotted the plant (on my moms advice) with new regular soil and gave it a dose of water. That was 2 weeks ago and I have seen no improvement. There are no new shoots coming out and the top 4 inches or so of the stem is spongy. The ball and roots look okay and the stem is hard the rest of the way down. Is hope lost for this beloved plant? Should I cut off the spongy top or just give it more time? Please please help!
The plant needs to be in a soil mix intended for cactus or succulents. Regular soil is too heavy and collects too much water. Make sure the pot has drainage holes. You can sut the top off and put a commercial sealant on the top of the cut. Within a month or two you should see new growth.
I would love to order a pony tail palm via mail. Who sells the bonsai size & for how much $???
Thx,
Rhonda
