2024 First Snow Winners
Every year, we ask our readers to guess when the “first snowfall” date in Dublin, New Hampshire, which is the longtime home of The Old Farmer’s Almanac. For over 20 years, our readers have done an impressive job of predicting the exact date (or getting pretty darn close).
In 2024, the “first snow” started falling on November 28, Thanksgiving Day! Fun Fact: This is the latest date that Thanksgiving can happen. Perhaps that’s why it feels as if the Christmas and holiday season is coming so quickly.
Almost 2,000 readers took a shot at the first snow date. An impressive 17 guessed the correct date. Normally, we chose 10 names randomly from all those readers who guessed the correct date. This year, we’ll send The Old Farmer’s Almanac Weather Calendar to all 17 winners. Please check your email box next week as we’ll need your snail mail.

What Counts as the First Snow?
We’re not talking about a dusting that comes and goes. To qualify as a real snowfall, there are two conditions:
- There must be 2 inches of snow to cover and blanket the ground in our yard. (Yes, we will use the measuring stick!)
- The snow must stick for at least 24 hours.
Giveaway Prize and Rules
The prize is The 2025 Old Farmer’s Almanac Weather Calendar to 10 lucky winners, chosen randomly from all those readers who guessed the correct date. If you don’t get picked, you’ll have the satisfaction that you guessed correctly!
