I am a MG in Alabama and what a wonderful time I have had learning from all the different farmers in my area. I couldn't agree with the article more. I have been a Master Gardener for five years now and have loved every minute of it. The initial training course is not easy and you are expected to continue to engage in volunteer work and continuing education in order to retain your certification, but it is certainly worth it. Besides learning how to make your own gardening activities more successful, you get the satisfaction of helping others and giving back to your community. Master Gardeners are a community, we are always working together on various projects and attending various events, so there is a social component also.
