I like to practice my golf swing...

I like to practice my golf swing in the backyard but don’t like what it does to the turf. Is there any way to perfect my swing while keeping my lawn looking neat?
Answer
If you have a spare piece of indoor-outdoor low-pile carpeting around, your problem is solved, because it will make a terrific chipping tee. You’ll need a scrap approximately 18 inches square. Make sure the piece is large enough that you don’t hit the back edge with your downstroke. If the carpet lifts every time you take a swing, you can nail it into the lawn with some long galvanized nails or, if you have them around, old croquet wickets. To practice your tee shots, punch a small hole in the center of the carpet with a nail, then insert a tee.
