When should I prune my lilacs?
Answer
Lilacs and other spring-flowering shrubs should be pruned just after they bloom, to avoid cutting off buds from the previous season. Prune with the idea of providing them with good light and air circulation, and it wouldn’t hurt to fertilize them immediately after pruning, using a slow-release fertilizer and plenty of water.
