Don't repot--they like being tightly potted, just like orchids. As for light green on top, that means new growth, so keep up the good work!
I've had my ponytail over 20 years. This last summer 2 little ponys have arrived, Coming out of the exposed bulb. How do I remove, transplant, start them without killing them? I have read what people have said about cutting the newbys & their roots under the soil but mine are on the top part of the bulb.
Thanks,
Makala
I've had my pony tail plant for about 5 yrs. It has been beautiful until about 1 mo. ago when the beautiful green leaves started turning brown and falling off. Now I have no leaves on the 4 "arms" that sprouted them. It looks like dead, dry straw around the "arms". Have I done something to KILL my beautiful unique plant?
It is on the end of my kitchen island facing 4 windows. I water about 2 a month, when soil feels dry. PLEASE HELP ME AND MY PLANT.
Above in Pests section, lists overwatering can cause root rot; as stated above, try to allow to dry out. I also use something called SuperThrive with fertizer every 3 months - is vitamins & hormones extracted from plants for plants, and I add as a booster to favorite fertilizer. Hope this helps, pony tails are like roses, prefer to be ignored most of the time then fussed over about every 2-3 months except in heat of late Spring & Summer.
I just get this plant as a birthday preset never had any plant before I need to know how often it have to be watering and how much water shoul be used I did like a 1/4 of a cup and just spray the leaves Also the lease on one side look down and other side more up

Hi, just a quick question about how to water my ponytail plant, water from the top , or set it in a small bowl and let it absorb water from bottom ? Thanks
My directions say 1 cup water every 2 weeks. If pot is non draining, drain water back out after 20 to 30 min. Fertilize every 2 months. They live anywhere in home environment, but they love indirect light an hour a day. Temp. Never below 40 degree f.
My 26 year old ponytail was repotted 6 months ago. It is outside on a covered lanai in Florida. Can it stay out all winter? It occasionally goes to 32 degrees. Can I just cover it?
The leaves now hug the stem instead of standing out. New leaves are just forming and are standing out a bit-is it perhaps recovering? Could it be in a pot that is too big? Any help & advice are appreciated! Thanks!
I've had mine for many yrs and also live I FL. I only cover it during cold temps and water less during this time. I had new roots come out of the trunk about a foot above the soil. I now have three. This happened when I repotted it. Its on my carpot and I let the soil get a bit dry before watering it.
