Corn Bread


1 cup cornmeal
1 cup flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
1-1/2 cups milk
4 tablespoons melted butter


Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Sift together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Add egg, milk, and butter and beat until well mixed. Pour into greased 8-inch skillet or 8-inch-square pan. Bake 25 minutes. Cool and cut into squares.


Makes approximately 12 pieces

When I was a kid, y mother used to make corn bread and called it johnny cake.

Johnny Cake is a flatbread.

Johnny Cake is a flatbread. Cornbread uses a leavening agent. That's the difference.
