Make it all go away. Keep high noon high noon. Before clocks, we had the sundial. While not advocating a return to such tools, the principle remains. Let time do its thing, live with it, don’t “change” it. It’s not possible anyway. We can measure time, but there’s no way to speed it up, slow it down, or change its march in any way.
Ok ---- but "high noon" for whom? Tomorrow the sun will rise at 8 08 am in Indianapolis and at 7 07 am in Banog Maine. Both are in the Eastern Time Zone.
If you want to have what you call "noon" to be when the sun is at its highest point in the sky, according to a sundial, then we can't have time zones or any kind of 'unified time'. (It's all a human construct anyway!) We could just tell people we'll meet them at sunrise, 'high noon' or sunset (the way humans did it when sundials were in use) ---- and everyone lives in their own time!
Instead, we choose to use an arbitrary measure of time we call a 'day'. We assign it numbers (which don't match up with nature, hence an extra day in February every 4 years) ---
If we want truly to live as naturally as possible I guess we could do away with unified time and also with electricity for that matter. Without electricity it would be harder to say up late into the night (and there wouldn't be too much to do, either) ---- and I guess we could all go to bed sometime after sunset, get up at sunrise and live in rhythm with nature and the seasons (as opposed to our industrial, high-tech societies)
Anything is possible! And in some way, you could individually live any way you want!
(PS Unform time came along with the railroads ---- because they needed to standardize arrival and departure times)
I prefer Standard time all of the time.
I prefer standard time all year too. Daylight saving makes too much light in the pm; less light in the am~
The name of that bill — Sunshine Protection Act — is ridiculous. Protect sunshine from what? There will still be the same amount of sun, whether it’s Standard Time or DST. I hate DST. I say we keep Standard Time all year, so time can match the sun. It will still be light in the evening in the summer, but not until 9:00. It doesn’t need to be light that late.
It’s time to put DST where it needs to be - in the trash. Let’s go back to the way it should be.
I think the whole thing is SILLY. The sun is going to be up the same length of time each day no matter what the clocks say. No "daylight" is ever really "saved;" you have more of it at one end of the day than the other, but it's still 8 hours, or 10, or 14, or whatever your latitude and the season require. I'm with the farmers: let's just be in harmony with the sun.
I'd prefer DST, but whichever one is better that changing the clocks twice a year. Like the old chief said, "It takes the government to think you can cut a foot off the top of a blanket, sew it onto the bottom, and have a longer blanket."
I absolutely prefer DST!
Very wise chief. And logical!
