I am a farmer in Georgia and I definitely prefer remaining on standard time year round. People (and animals) naturally adjust to the shorter winter days and longer summer days. Making a drastic shift of an hour in the spring and fall has no effect on the amount of daylight available on any given day. The practice has outlived any “usefulness” it may have ever had. Stick with standard time or even DST year round but please pick one and quit switching back and forth!
Standard Time is better- period.
Appreciate the link to the AASM paper (see also Roenneberg et al. 2019 for SRBR) but sad that this article has so little to say about year-round standard time, the status quo in several states until 1966. State legislatures in Tennessee, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Oregon held committee hearings in 2023 for such bills, which could restore balance to the day without an act of Congress.
I'm Agreeing with most, get rid of DST.. I'm in Louisiana and these longer, hotter, brutal summer days are the pits.. It definitely is not saving any energy on my electric bill or anyone else's.. I Want Standard Time Year Round and these politicians need to stay out of it..
Frankly I think this causes MORE energy to be used particularly in desert states. Adding an hour of daylight also adds an hour of HEAT in the summer. I *HATE* DST and have even from when I was a kid. It is a stupid idea. My dad worked for the power company in a substation (back when they had people in them and did not have SCADA) and we added up the system load before and after DST was activated. VERY LITTLE CHANGE if any surely nothing to crow about. Now this was in NJ but where I live now (in Nevada) I am almost certain the load goes UP due to DST during summer months. I do not like DST and prefer REAL time that follows the sun's AZIMUTH, but would live with it if it meant not having to do that stupid clock change ever again.
Thanks

I totally agree with you! Prefer standard time but would accept DST, as long as it is left one way or the other and never changed again!
Standard time.."IS" natural time.. they don't seem to want us to be HEALTHY! DST is just ONE MORE "MAN MADE" concoction that is NOT in our best interest! STANDARD TIME IS "REAL" time.
The older I get the more DST affects me in a very negative way. Back when I was working 12 hour swifts and rotating day night…I didn’t really think about the time changing twice a year. My work hours messed me up enough.
I’ve been retired almost 10 years and my sleep is affected every year (especially the 12 weeks around the Summer Solstice). The decrease in quantity and quality of sleep due to it still being light at 9:30 leaves me totally exhausted.
I suppose I could adjust to either, but why mess with our circadian rhythms twice a year?
STANDARD TIME year ‘roundin harmony with the sun and moon and nature is preferable
I have not hope of US ever ending it or even Canada. Maybe Europe might end it. Cause they use a bidet :-P.
Yeah before running water was available people used paper. Then after running water was available North america still uses paper destroying millions or trees and creating a lot of pollution increase CO2 emissions
So I don't think they will ever change. I mean in a week or max a month Christopher columbus and his crew knew that he had not landed in India and the native americans are not Indian but 500 years later they still have not stopped calling them Indians.
This practice must stop! Until then, I have already stopped it in my household. I simply left everything as is... well, my phone and my cable box would not abide with my rule... 🤪
