How to Properly Display the American Flag

Hi, Chuck: Sounds like you've put a lot of great patriotic effort into this—thanks and congratulations! With regard to your flag emblems, you actually have two options: (1) Yes, the blue union would be to the left on each side, or (2) on the other hand, it is more customary these days to have the blue union be toward the front of something that is moving, as you see on the right arm patches of military and first responders. This represents Old Glory as she is being rushed forward to face a challenge. If it were up to us, we would choose #2 and have the blue union on the right side as you faced the right rear panel. Thanks for asking!
Hi, Dwight: Once Old Glory stops being something that would fly freely from a pole or hang on a wall and becomes something else, like a patch or part of a clothing design, she is no longer Old Glory. What you have then is simply flag art. So, while the propriety of wearing an image of Old Glory certainly might be called into question, the right to do so is protected by Freedom of Speech—which, ironically, is exactly what Old Glory stands for. Thanks for caring so much to ask!

Hi, Robert: No, you do not have to take down your state flag, and if it was flying from the same pole as Old Glory, you are free to raise it all the way to the top until Old Glory herself can return there. Thank you for being so respectful of the Stars and Stripes that you recognize the need for and are willing to make repairs. And thank you for being so patriotic to ask this question!
