Isn't it considered offensive that police departments, and their officers, are using our coveted symbol of freedom and independence to serve their own purpose? Imagine how much of an uproar there would be if the LGBQT (rainbow), Cannibus Coalition (green) or the Goth Nuts (black)?
Can a flag indicating a political personage such as a current President or someone running for office be displayed on the same flagpole as the Stars and Stripes?
Is sons of liberty stripe flag considered A historical USA flag like Betsy Ross flag. I rotate historical ones and wondered if sons flag can be placed on top, I fly 2, bottom ones rotate us army, gadson, molon labe etc. so ? Wb should sons flag be a top tier rotation or second level
Hi, Jerry: The Sons of Liberty striped flag is indeed considered a historical flag like the Betsy Ross, Gadsden, Molon Lab, et al., but there is no real hierarchy among them. As long as Old Glory is first, foremost, and above, the placement of what is below her does not matter from a technical standpoint. Thanks for asking!
In this time of the Coronavirus, I am trying to promote solidarity in our country by displaying my collection of small American flags in my bare flower pots across my house front. Since the Homeowners won't let me hang a flag, I have done this on the appropriate holidays for several years and then taken them out at the end of the day. What exactly are the rules for leaving them in the pots for the duration of this crisis?
Should you take down your flag if you are going to be gone for a few months?

Hi, Pat: Thanks for this excellent question. We are very sorry for your loss, just as we are very thankful for your brother's service. There can be a number of things going on here, including making sure that the flag, when refolded, ends up in the right orientation for presentation. Another is to emphasize that this is not some folded flag off some shelf, but is indeed a freshly folded, important flag specific to this person and this occasion. For flags that have been atop coffins, the flipping action also serves to clear them of anything airborne that may have landed upon them during the preceding ceremonies. Finally, it is important to note that each folding of Old Glory carries a specific meaning, e.g., the first fold represents life, the second represents belief in eternal life, etc. Thus, by refolding the flag, each of these meanings is invoked in the ceremony. So the overall meaning of this flipping and refolding is that this is a very special flag for a very special veteran—which no doubt it was. Thanks again!
