How to Properly Display the American Flag

Hi, Tim: While it is certainly permissible to do this thanks to Freedom of Speech, this is not proper flag etiquette. Old Glory should be flown at half-staff only by decree of the president or a governor; on certain holidays; in certain specific places; and under a few other special circumstances. You can imagine that if everybody started flying Old Glory at half-staff for personal reasons, at any given moment there would be many, many thousands of such flags flying across the land, which would diminish and eventually blur the specialness meant to be marked by more national or regional observances. Sorry for your loss, if that is the case, and thanks for caring so much to ask!
Hi, Keith: Assuming that the flagpoles are in a straight line more or less parallel to the front of the facility, you would want Old Glory to be on the far left when viewed from the street, so, from L–R, it would be US/PA, corp, company. This can be thought of as your business "presenting" the flags to the street, in the same way that an Old Glory onstage is also to the audience's left and presenter's right. Thanks for caring so much to ask!
Hi, Jay: The question of lighting and the question of inclement weather are two separate things. In darkness, all Old Glories should be lit. In inclement weather, only "all-weather" (e.g., not cotton) Old Glories should be flown. Thus, even though Old Glory may be lit during an inclement night, if she is not made of all-weather material, she should not be left outside. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
