How to Properly Display the American Flag
More Like This
As long as the US flag is the tallest/highest out of all of the flags in the area, it is proper.
I forgot to add that, if other flags are at the same level, the US Flag should be the right most flag of the area, so that as you walk up to it, the US Flag is on the viewers left. But it depends on if you are able to walk up to the flag from all directions. In this case, I believe that the orientation should be so that the viewer is facing north, with the flags aligned in an East/West line, with the US Flag on the left of the viewer. If say the flags are in front of a building, on the west side of the building, then the US Flag is still on the viewers left, which would be to the north.
I stand corrected. Per the most recent code:
(e) The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of States or localities or pennants of societies are grouped and displayed from staffs.
(f) When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag's right.
Am I correct, when displaying a flag lapel pin no other pin should be above the flag?
Retired Afghanistan Veteran,
Mike
(j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
As long as it is a single flag. However, there are lapel pins that display Army, Marine Corps and other branch flags and if you notice, the flags are both the same level and same size.
Along the roads I see rows of small flags, on sticks, stuck in the ground for decoration. They may be touching the ground, out in the rain and no light at night. Do these rules apply to all flags or just the large one on poles?
Was the removal of the USA flag to fly the Mexican flag in Aurora, CO considered desecration?
In my opinion it was but I want to have my facts correct.
Thank you for any information of this.
It is absolutely considered disrespectful to remove the American Flag while on U.S. soil, be it on any of the 50 States, any of its legal territories or legally acquired land, as in Military installations or an Embassy. It can also be seen as an act of treason or even war, perpetrated by the person/s involved and even country of the flag displayed.
