Should someone walk up to a flag that is properly displayed and grab it and hug it and rub his/her face in it?
Hi, Laurie, John M., John B., Elizabeth, and Barbara: It's fine to show your love of flag and country by hugging and/or kissing Old Glory, as long as you don't get her dirty and otherwise aren't doing anything gross or obscene or that your mother and/or The Old Farmer wouldn't approve. Thanks for asking!
Is it ok to hug or embrace a flag as a display of patriotism?

Our flag is displayed and illuminated on a pole, where we cannot take it down every day. Is there an alternate protocol to replace half staff? A military verteran told us there is another small flag that can be displayed lower on the flagpole that replaces the need to put the large flag at half staff. Has anyone heard of this?

Hi, Joyce: You would hang your Missouri flag to the right of Old Glory as you face it. You could hang it vertically (preferred), with its top edge closest to Old Glory, or horizontally, with its left side closest. The union (blue field) should be at the top left corner of Old Glory. Thanks for asking and say hi to your class next year (BTW, we have an Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids that's often used in the classroom)!
