How to Properly Display the American Flag
More Like This
Is a flag with a thin blue line considered a valid tribute flag?
We display the United States flag with the state flag. They are outside on each side of a doorway on separate poles of the same height. The instructions above state that the state flag should be displayed "to the right of the American flag."
Is that to the right as one is outside looking at the building, the door, and the flags? Or, is it to the right as one is standing in the doorway between the flags facing the outside?
Thank you.
Hi, Jan: You are correct (oops, almost used the word "right")—this can be confusing. Old Glory should be on the right as you are standing in the doorway and on the left when viewed from outside, in the same way that she would be to the right of a speaker onstage and on the audience's left. Thanks for caring so much to ask!
The flag etiquette rules state that a flag should never be carried flat. Does that mean when a large flag is carried onto a field (example a football field) flat for the National Anthem it goes against flag etiquette rules?
Are any other flags allowed to fly with American flag on the same flag pole?
I just seen a car wash put a pennant (flag size) on the same pole under the American Flag. It said the car wash’s name and $3 washes. Is that disrespectful?
