How to Properly Display the American Flag
More Like This
Hi, Mary: It's OK to fly an Old Glory from a golf cart (where the pole should be attached to the back passenger's side, which unfortunately can interfere with accessing the golf bag on that side), but other uses and places are really not preferred, although perfectly allowable under Freedom of Speech. Old Glory can also be mounted on the front passenger's side, as you would see in a motorcade, for example. Thanks for caring so much to ask!
Hi, Lori: Yes, unfortunately, there are many Old Glories being flown these days that are too big for their breeches, er, poles, but there are no exemptions to the rule as such. If it appears that lowering the Stars and Stripes down to half-staff would not be practical because the flag would touch or come close to touching the ground, then it should still be lowered as much as reasonably possible even if this is not all the way down to halfway. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
