is it appropriate to hang the American flag on the wall in a stairwell? it seems disrespectful to me...
Hi, Vic: As long as Old Glory is hung in the proper orientation (blue "union" at upper left), fastened securely, and kept clean, then hanging her on almost any wall is fine. A possible problem in a stairwell, though, would arise if she were to constantly be touched, grabbed, soiled, and so forth, in which case this would not be OK. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
Can I fly my flag on a covered porch (under the cover). It will not touch the ground and will be well lit at night. I am trying to keep it out of the rain.
Can the US flag be carried in a parade at night? There is some street light along the parade route.
Can a Christmas wreath be hung from the US flag holder protruding from a

Hi, James: It's important for all of us to understand that Old Glory is not just a revered symbol worthy of great respect but also an active, adaptable, and ever-changing participant in the life of our country in many, many ways and many, many places. While our goal should always be to keep her properly folded when not flying freely, we also need to recognize that sometimes this is not possible. We want Old Glory to be out there among us, and sometimes this means temporarily cutting corners for the sake of a greater good. So, while we probably wouldn't recommend "balling up" Old Glory when she is in transition, a loose folding or draping over the arm or whatever would certainly be acceptable before proper folding as soon thereafter as possible. Thanks for caring so much to ask!
