Wake up to a delicious breakfast when you whip up this breakfast strata the night before. While pears and eggs may seem like a strange combination, we promise you that it will delight your tastebuds.

Ingredients
1 pound day-old brioche bread, cut into small pieces
1 can (16 ounces) sliced pears, drained, reserving 1/4 cup juice
8 ounces maple breakfast sausage links, cut into 1-inch pieces
2 cups shredded Gouda cheese
6 eggs
1-3/4 cups whole milk
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
confectioners' sugar, for topping (optional)
Instructions
  1. Spray a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray and arrange bread cubes in dish. Add pears.
  2. Cook sausage links, drain, then add to baking dish. Sprinkle Gouda over all.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, reserved pear juice, salt, and spices. Pour over bread mixture and press down. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  5. Remove baking dish from refrigerator while oven preheats. Uncover and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool slightly, then sift confectioners’ sugar over strata (if using). Serve warm.
