Is there any concern displaying a flag mounted on the rear of a house? Finding plenty of guidance regarding where and how on the front of house, but nothing as to whether or not rear of house is of any concern. Thanks in advance.
Is it proper to have a windsock or other item above American flag on flag pole?
I have voiced concerns to the mayor of our town regarding every flag - with the exception of the one at our police station -being in complete darkness during night hours. There is no illumination whatsoever and flags are left up 24 hours a day seven days a week in rain, sun, white, and darkness. The flag displayed at the police station is only illuminated because of ambient light from a nearby street light. Can you tell me if I am correct in believing that this is improper and disrespectful?
Hi, Jessica: You are quite correct. What caring citizens will sometimes do in cases like this is to make a public request to the town budget committee or finance department for funding to improve this situation. Often this will miraculously lead to corrective action rather than a request by the administration to add more money to be raised by tax dollars. Another tactic is to appeal to your local American Legion, VFW, etc., for support—as you know, there is strength in numbers. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
I am curious about be raising and lowering of the American flag. As I wait for my granddaughter to come out from high school I watch the kids lower the flag. People are walking all over the place no one is even paying attention to what is going on with our American flag. I was always taught that when the flag was going up or coming down that you should stop and respect for the flag and wait for it to be completely raised or lowered. Is there any rule of thumb for this?
I am preparing a concert entitled North American Musical Gems. The concert will include music from Canada, Mexico, and the United States. I would like to hang the three nation's flags horizontally against a black background. Is there a proper order for the flags from right to left. Should they all be hung at the same height as if they were on their own separate pole?

Hi, Alan: It sounds to us like you are being extremely respectful! Once Old Glory has become too weathered to fly, she should be retired completely until replaced, not flown at half-staff. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
