I work at a Hospital and we fly donor flags. Can they fly on the same pole as the U.S. Flag. We do have a state flag on it's own pole
Is it okay to shorten a flag pole several inches when flying the flag off a front porch? As long as the flag doesn’t touch anything?
What is the significance, if any, of gold fringe or different colored cords on the flag. Thanks!
How can you display the flag vertically at half staff? I think my parents would drape a black sash over the flag on Memorial Day, but I can’t find any suggestions. Thanks
We recently attended a memorial service at Indiantown Gap, Annville, Pa. My brother served in the United States Navy and was buried at that facility. We wondered WHY DID THE TWO REPESENTATIVES FROM THAT BRANCH UNFOLD, FLIP THE FLAG OVER AND THEN RE-FOLD IT BEFORE PRESENTING IT TO US????

Hi, Carolyn: There many "original" "rules" and customs about respecting Old Glory. Some were carried forward into what is known as the U.S. Flag Code (U.S.C. Title 4, Section 8). Others have been passed down from military customs. However, almost any kind of treatment of our flag is protected by Freedom of Speech. Thanks for asking!
