How to Properly Display the American Flag

Hi, Michael: Thanks to both your wife and you for being such patriotic observers and questioners. In fact—although we see this all the time—it is improper to carry the flag horizontally by its edges. The instruction to which you refer pertains to displaying it flat against a wall when stretched taut or else slightly less so, such that a few folds are allowed to hang down a little as though Old Glory were billowing in a light breeze. Thanks again for being so patriotic to ask!
Hi, Michael: Thanks to Freedom of Speech, anyone can pledge allegiance to Old Glory. Whether they mean it (which they certainly could) might be another matter, but sometimes it's important to remember that it's the thought that counts, and if a noncitizen loves our country enough to pledge allegiance to it, more power to them. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!

Hi, John: Veterans may either leave their cover on and render the salute or else remove their cover and hold it over their heart. Thanks for caring so much to ask!
