How to Properly Display the American Flag

Hi, Paul: Thanks for this great question! The answer really lies in semantics. Old Glory the Flag is a rectangular piece(s) of fabric(s), often with grommet holes for tying or clipping to a flag staff or pole, meant to be flown freely (or mounted flat against a surface). When such an Old Glory the Flag is used as or on clothing, that is improper. However, what we usually see on clothing is not Old Glory the Flag but Old Glory the Flag Image or Old Glory the Flag Art, which is OK because it is protected under Freedom of Speech. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
Hi, Daniel: Thanks for serving, and listen, there's no such thing as a dumb question when it comes to protecting Old Glory! And the answer is: Sure! Perfectly OK to wash! And while it doesn't necessarily have to be by itself, it would be nice if it were not thrown in with your coveralls right after swabbing the decks (or barn!), if you know what we mean! Thanks again!

Hi, Nicholas: An unlit flag would just be taken down at sunset on the 15th. A lit flag would be raised to full staff at 12:01 a.m. on the 16th... thanks for asking!
