How to Properly Display the American Flag
More Like This
Hugging the flag is wrong, especially for this president, as it's not supposed to touch anything beneath it.
Having read several complaints about President Trump hugging the flag perhaps the question is not so much disrespecting the flag as it is your dislike for our President. It is perfectly appropriate for anyone to hug our flag. President Trump did not disrespect the flag but you did disrespect the President.
Is this proper respect for the flag?
What are the rules for displaying the American flag with other flags such as the gay pride flags, is it allowed? Or should this be on a totally different flag pole?
I've searched US flag etiquette/protocol. Nowhere is hugging the flag addressed. Nevertheless, I find that behavior skeevy, smarmy, disrespectful, sends shivers down my spine. As Commander-in-Chief, shouldn't he salute our flag as the troops he leads would do?
I stumbled on this comment above with the same question as I'm very disturbed by the multiple images of our current President hugging and stroking the US Flag on display at various times in the last several years. As someone who grew up in scouts, I remembered all of the rules we had as to how to fold the flag, how to hoist it on the flag pole each morning and lower it at night. We were taught to honor the flag. Anthropomorphizing it as a human to be hugged seems like a bad form of etiquette if not a rule. thx.
Does the President of the United States have the privilege or freedom of expression to walk by an American flag posted on a public stage and physically embrace it as if it were a person or vestige and whisper "my baby" to it as was clearly seen at CPAC 2019 and other similar events?
Is it disrespectful to bear hug the flag ad it is standing on a pole in a room in a public display to enhance one's political grandstanding?
It seems really disrespectful to me.
Well, the flag is not to touch anything beneath it, nor dipped to any individual, even the President, so it would seem you are correct.
I hope.
