If a flag is becoming tattered and the new flag has not arrived, is it better to leave it up frayed until it can be replaced, or not have the flag up at all?
Proud American - I have hung my American flag at an angle against my house. Stars are at the highest point.
There are no obstructions below or along the sides. It is free flowing. Two questions
1) how high off the ground should the flag fly
2) when American Flags are flown at Half-Staff - Can I fly the flag, stars up to the right but horizontally parallel to the ground
Hi, John: When hanging, the bottom point of the flag should be at least as high off the ground as the length ("fly") of the flag. We're not really sure what you mean by #2. The best way to mark half-staff with a flag on an angled pole is to hang a black streamer or ribbon from its topmost point. Thanks for asking and thanks for being so proud!
What sbout people who choose to kneel instead of standing for the anthem. Isn’t this disrespectful to act like that?
What is the correct way to act? During the Anthem?
Hi, Julianne: The proper way is to stand for the anthem, with service members saluting and civilians with hands over their hearts or at sides. However, it is important to remember that Old Glory and the National Anthem both stand for our cherished Freedom of Speech, under which kneeling is certainly allowed. Thanks for asking!
According to flag etiquette kneeling, and standing during the anthem are both allowed
