I was taught by my father us ww2 infantry and American Legion commander to place my hand over my heart during ceremony involving flag. He had me read etiquette in small handbook. Isn't there something about etiquette involving the national anthem and the flag during sporting events? I remember reading this as a child. Stating to show respect for your country and countrymen to stand during anthem at sporting events.
Please respond. Thank you.
Hi, Susan: Thank you to your father for his service. Yes, it is customary for those in the service to salute and for “civilians” to place their hand over their heart when the national anthem is played, although it is also acceptable for the latter to stand respectfully at attention with hands at sides. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
Is it appropriate to accept money from the defense department for the purpose of a patriotic display?
I am a high school marching band director. For the end of our show this year we are using a digital image that gives the impression of an American flag waving. It is not really an American flag. Just gives that patriotic flag idea. I had a complaint because the sit on the field rolled around the color guard (flag line) poles until the end of the show when we play America the Beautiful. The person said it was against code. Is this true even though it is not actually an American flag?
. . .on their home or property
When the flag is flown in memoriam at half mast until "internment", would someone please define "internment" when use in this case. I understand "internment" to mean once the person is buried. If the person is buried at 4pm does that mean the flag goes back to full mast, or does it wait until sunset? We have lite flags so they are flown 24/7, when does the flag return to full mast? Thank you.
