How to Properly Display the American Flag

Improper display of our Flag is an individual, personal interpretation; UNLESS the improper display addresses the actual display of our Flag. The Constitution protects the right of freedom to display our Flag in various scenario for a variety of uses just as it protects the right of people to publicly burn our Flag as a sign of protest. When tastefully shown, accurately reproduced, I, as the 2d of 3 generations of career Army having been married to a 26 year career Army man, deceased while on Active Duty, see no disrespect nor improper display of our Flag to show patriotism. I possess various styles of our Flag displayed on my vehicle, refrigerator, coffee mug, a tee shirt, etc. I have a short sleeve dress shirt I starch and iron for wear on the 4th of July. The entire front is an actual and proper display reproduction of our Flag. I do have one rule though, should I purchase an item displaying the American Flag it must be wholly made in its entirety in the USA. Being "assembled in the USA" does not quality.
Now, if you were cutting up actual flags for your projects, although not illegal, I would strongly believe it to be a disgraceful show of disrespect and a dishonor to our Flag.
I saw a post about this but saw no answer. I have seen cloth with flags or flag related designs used for clothing, etc. Is this cloth okay?
I don’t have a place on my house I can mount my flag pole. Is it appropriate to mount the pole bracket to my palm tree outside my front door.
Yes, you could although putting nails or screws in to your tree is really going to hurt its feelings and could be damaging to it. If you don't have a fence post to mount to and don't want to put up a stand alone post of some sort then, afixing a piece of 1x3" to corner of house, foyer to door, any place where a board can be securely attached with long nails or screws (preferably) is an option. It can be stained or painted to blend in to your house. Wherever you fly your Flag, insure it receives proper night illumination keeping it fully visible to passerbys.
We plan to fly the American Flag on top followed under by a state flag and then a corporate flag. Are there any rules as to what kind of flags can be flown underneath? Someone wants to fly a gay pride flag underneath....
What a question! If you have to live that lifestyle, keep it to yourself, but it has NO PLACE flying with the American flag!
My son just crossed over from a Webelo II to Boy Scouts and he is in the process of earning the Biy Scout rank. Our troop sets out Flags for the local rotary program, for 5 Holidays a year. The flags are left out for 6 to 7 days at a time. Currently there is a debate on wether or not they can be displayed at night without lighting. Could you please clarify this for me?

Hi, Cathryn: Flag images such as those you mention are considered art, not flags, so anything goes. Thanks for asking!
