How to Properly Display the American Flag

Hi, Darlene: If this was indoors, it is an acceptable practice, as often it is not practical to repeatedly attach and detach Old Glory from a fixed staff. If it was outdoors, then she should have been taken down or lit, regardless of whether wrapped. Thanks for caring so much to ask!
Hi, Chris: Yes, you may, in a dignified manner. Old Glory should be properly folded into the triangle. A moment of silence or the Pledge of Allegiance, or both, is then observed/practiced. Then Old Glory is placed in a safe fire that is of high enough heat and size to consume her completely. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
Hi, Larry: We always say that when people are trying to honor the USA and Old Glory in any way, it's hard to say that they are doing anything "wrong." And, technically, inasmuch as adherence to the U.S. Flag Code is voluntary and the display of Old Glory in any way is protected by Freedom of Speech, you were entirely in bounds. This being said, it would seem to us that the way to do this would be to keep one or two or three (if necessary) Old Glories at the peak of the arch and then alternately replace the others on either side of the top, working your way either down or up, depending on where you start (top or bottom), rather than, say, replace them in a linear fashion across the bridge from one side to the other, as seems to have been done. If it's not too late, it sounds like some simple rearranging might be able to make everyone happy. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
Hi, William: Old Glory should be flown at half-staff only under a limited number of circumstances, including (and most commonly) at the direction of the president, who can order her to half-staff for any reason that he or she chooses. In this case, President Biden directed this honor, so it is entirely proper. Thanks for asking!
