How to Properly Display the American Flag

Hi, Pete: Once Old Glory has been altered with a different-color stripe, she ceases being the U.S. flag and instead becomes "flag art," which is protected by Freedom of Speech. Whether this is appropriate is up to the beholder. Ironically, though, countless Americans across the centuries have given their lives or limbs while fighting for Old Glory in order to guarantee the very freedoms that enable folks not just to make "flag art" but also to judge whether it is proper as they see fit. Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
Hi, Michele: Old Glory does not have to be the highest flag as long as she is farthest to the right when viewing the "audience." So for example, if you were behind a table at a street fair, Old Glory could be at the right side of your table and some other flag of the same height could be at the left side. The booth next to yours could have the same exact setup. This would mean that their Old Glory would be to the left of your other flag when facing the street, but this is OK because each of your booths is considered a separate presentation. Thanks for caring so much to bring this up!

Hi, Jeanette: No, not necessarily. We have the freedom to fly whatever flag(s) we want, wherever, whenever—which is what Old Glory really stands for, isn't it? Thanks for being so patriotic to ask!
